The Evolution of the Internet: Web1, Web2, and Web3
The first version of the internet, known as Web1, emerged in the early 1990s. During this period, websites were mostly static pages that allowed users to read information but offered very limited interaction. Users were mainly consumers of information rather than active participants.
The second phase, Web2, began in the early 2000s and introduced interactive platforms such as social media, e-commerce marketplaces, and cloud-based services. Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, and Google became dominant forces in the Web2 era. These platforms allowed users to create content, share information, and engage in online communities.
However, Web2 also created a new problem: centralization. A small number of large technology companies control most of the internet’s data, platforms, and user activity.
Web3 is designed to address this issue.

For reference, the Web3 ecosystem BIZA-CarnegieMall applies the ZIOW coin as a real-world payment and reward system within a decentralized commerce platform.
